Margaret Fugate, 94, a resident of West Plains, Mo., for the past two years and formerly of Overland Park, Kan., were held on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in White Church, Mo., under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Mrs. Fugate died at 1:24 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, in Brooke Haven HealthCare. She was born Aug. 1, 1913, at Pomona, Mo., to George Washington and Marcella Dunn Eidson. She received her elementary education at the Modrell School, graduated from the Willow Springs High School with the class 1931, attended Southwest Missouri State College receiving her teacher's certificate and then she taught at Modrell, Dowling and Olden Schools in this area. On Oct. 20, 1934, she was married at West Plains, Mo., to Charles "Ted" Fugate, who preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 1975. She and her husband, Charles "Ted," moved to the Kansas City area in 1943 where Margaret worked as a receptionist at City Bond and Mortgage. She retired in 1978, then went back to work at Woolf Brothers Clothing Store and retired again in 1988. Mrs. Fugate was a long-time member of the American Business Women's Association, the Order of Elks Auxiliary and the Rockhurst College Mothers Circle. She was an avid bridge player, playing in five different bridge clubs until the age of 92. Mrs. Fugate was a member of Cure of Ars Catholic Church. Mrs. Fugate is survived by her son, Royce Fugate and wife, Rita, of West Plains, Mo.; grandson, Charles Fugate of Overland Park, Kan.; and many cousins and friends. Her parents and husband precede her in death. Burial was at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Rockhurst College Mothers Circle, the Willow Springs Alumni Association Scholarship Fund or Missouri State University of West Plains, Mo. Contributions may be left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
