Funeral services for James Leo "Jim" Mitts, 87, West Plains, Mo., will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2007, in the Rose Chapel, Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Mr. Mitts died 6:40 a.m. Sunday, May 20, 2007, at Ozarks Medical Center. He was born July 18, 1919, in Twin Bridges, Mo., to John Wilson and Rosa Fish Mitts.
On Feb. 20, 1954, Mr. Mitts was married at Ketchikan, Alaska, to Freeda Isabelle Prantl, who preceded him in death June 18, 2004.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II in the Pacific Theatre of War, receiving three Bronze Stars.
Mr. Mitts was a heavy equipment operator and after his retirement was a cattle farmer and enjoyed riding horses. He was a member of Missouri Cattleman's Association and had been a member of the Elks in the state of Washington.
Mr. Mitts was of the Episcopal faith.
He is survived by two stepchildren, Carol Beth Seeger, Aurora, Colo., and Linda Susan Johnstonbaugh, husband, Earl, Rose Hill, Kan.; eight stepgrandchildren; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; four stepgreat-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Vivian Lovan, Pottersville, Mo., and Helen Weeks, West Plains; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents; two brothers, Ray and Lester Mitts, and an infant brother, Wilbur Mitts; and two sisters, Gladys Mitts and Eunice Hopkins, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Burial will be at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery.
