Buried in an unmarked grave by a creek near Bloomfield 1870
Convicted of murdering Robert Vinkler Richardson, former Confederate Brigadier General also a Veteran of the Mexican American War, Skaggs was sentenced to hang. The hanging was botched and his neck did not break, what happened is referred to as "Missouri's Hanging Horror."
