Mrs. Verba L. Harris passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2013, while at Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains. Born on February 20, 1924, in Buckhart, Mo., to Andrew and Lannie (Wheat) Gibbons, she was 89 years old. Mrs. Harris grew up in Douglas County, Mo. She married Charles Harris Sr. and to this union five children were born. She worked for many years at Rawlings in Willow Springs. She had many enjoyments in her life such as quilting and travel. Her travels took her to Hong Kong, The West Coast, Hawaii, London, Canada, Alaska, and the Caribbean. She has resided in Willow Springs for the past 60 years where she was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church. Verba will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Charles Harris Sr.; her brothers Bretna Gibbons; Josiah Frank Gibbons; Charles B. Gibbons; Billy Lowell Gibbons; and her sister Lola Osterndorf. She is survived by her children, Lillie Wheeler and her son Steven of The Villages, Florida; Charles Harris Jr. and his wife Shirley of Olive Branch, Mississippi; Ella Edding and her husband Richard of Willow Springs; Netta Yardley and her husband Royce of Bolivar; Stanley Harris and his wife Vina Kaye of Jefferson City; and Robert Harris and his wife Jeanne of West Plains. She is further survived by 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; her sister Velva Allen of Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. The funeral service was held Tuesday, March 26, at Trinity Baptist Church, in Willow Springs. Burial followed Tuesday's service at the Howell Memorial Park Cemetery in Pomona. Arrangements were under the direction of Willow Funeral Home in Willow Springs. [howellcountynews.com, Mar 26, 2013]
