Henry enlisted in the United States Navy in Lincoln, Nebraska in August of 1917 He trained at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center and became a 1st Class Seaman. He crossed the Atlantic five times onboard the USS Montana and was then stationed at Chatem, Massachusetts.
