SILOAM SPRINGS — Jack D. "J.D." Houpe, 80, of Noel, Mo., died April 19, 2007, at the Quail Ridge Nursing Center in Siloam Springs.

He was born July 13, 1926, in Cooleemee, N.C. He served in the Army during World War II in Africa and Korea. He later served 25 years in the Air Force. After being honorably discharged, he made his home in Hillsburg, Calif., where he worked in construction.

He married Elaine F. Smith on Nov. 25, 1978, in Reno, Nev. In 1993, the couple left California to make their home in Noel.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Billy and Gene Houpe.

Survivors include wife, Elaine Houpe, of the home; son Jack D. Houpe Jr. and wife, Kathleen, of Gravette; a daughter, Teresa Burchette and husband, Don, of Grove, Okla.; three stepsons, Keith Smith of Sacramento, Calif., Bryan Smith of Antioch, Calif., and David Smith and wife, Amy, of Siloam Springs; as well as 12 grandchildren.

Funeral services with military honors will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Noel Cemetery with Daniel Dickard officiating. Pallbearers will be Jack Houpe, Jr., David Smith, Bryan Smith, Keith Smith, Don Burchette and Jeff Houpe.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Noel chapel of the Ozark Funeral Home. Arrangements are by Ozark Funeral Home in Noel, www.ozarkfuneralhome.com.
