Funeral services for Gregory Dean Gardner, 38, Highlandville, formerly of West Plains, will be at 3 P.M. Sunday, Nov. 5, 1995 in the Rose Chapel of the Robertson-Drago Funeral Home of West Plains.
Mr. Gardner died Thursday, Nov. 2, 1995, at St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield, the result of injuries suffered from an on-the-job accident which occurred at Southwest Mo. State University where he was employed He was born July 27, 1957, at West Plains, the son of Dr. S.E. and Joyce Hopke Gardner.
He graduated from West Plains High School with the class of 1975 and had attended Southwest Missouri State University. On Oct. 31, 1981, Mr. Gardner was married at Springfield to Janet Diane Elmore.
Mr. Gardner was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Navy. He was employed as a groundskeeper with Southwest Missouri State University, Springfield, and he was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ since childhood, achieved Eagle Scout by age 13 and had earned three palms including Silver Palm, the highest honor in Scouting. He was a member of Mt. Zion Masonic Lodge in West Plains.
Survivors include his wife, Jan Gardner, Highlandville; two children, Joshua Sterling Gardner and Jerrica Dea Gardner, both of the family home; his parents, Dr. S.E. and Joyce Gardner, West Plains; three sisters; Judith Wildman and husband, Mark, Columbia, and Claudia Komm and husband, Randy, and Beverly Roberts and husband, Charlie, all of West Plains; his maternal grandmother, Jewell Carlisle, West Plains; his mother-in-law, Tina Gold, Springfield, one brother-in-law, Charles Elmore and wife, Kathy, Walnut Grove; one sister-in-law, Ann Phillips and husband, Don; Kansas City; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncle and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents; his maternal grandfather; one niece, and one aunt, Mariann Burr
Memorial contributions may be made to the Greg Gardner Educational Fund and left at the funeral home.
Visitation will be 7 to 8 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Howell Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
