PIONEER CITIZEN OF CABOOL PASSES AWAY
Joseph R Rust, a pioneer citizen of Cabool passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Moses Lowther, on Saturday, August 15, 1925, age 81 years, 1 month, 9 days.
"Uncle Joe" as he was familiarly known was born in Weekly county, Tennessee, July 6, 1844 and moved with his parents to Missouri at the age of 10 years, the family first settling at Bolivar and later living for a time in Fairplay.
He moved to Cabool before the railroad was built, and was identified with the early history of the town, having conducted the first blacksmith shop in Cabool, his shop being on the lot where the Dove Brothers store is now located.
He was a veteran of the Civil War and was honorably discharged at the age of twenty years.
He leaves to mourn their loss, six children, fifteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. The living children are Mrs. A.H. Brown of Joplin, Mo.; John Rust, of California, Mrs. Moses Lowther of Cabool, R.C. White of Seymour, Mo.; Archie M. Rust, of Kansas City, Mo.; and Earl L. Rust of Salt Lake City.
The funeral services were held at the home Sunday, August 16, 1925 at 2:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. J.J. Carty. The remains were laid to rest in the Cabool Cemetery. [Cabool Enterprise]
