Viva Warren Laws was born in Kentucky, February 14, 1880 to Enock and Mary Belle Warren and passed away December 22, 1947. She moved with her parents to Greensburg, Indiana when a small child. In 1892 the family came to Missouri, locating 4 miles south of Cabool. All the rest of her life was spent in and near Cabool.
She was married to George C. Laws May 5, 1895. To this union 9 children were born. The husband and 7 children survive all of whom were present at the funeral. These are Orville and Vern of Cabool; Loville of Remsen, Iowa; Mrs. E.H. (Beatrice) Coons of Malvern, Iowa; Cecil of Kirkwood, Missouri; Leonard of Omaha, Nebraska; and Mrs. W.O. (Eula) Killion of Simmons, Missouri.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Arthur and Otis Warren; and two daughters, Juanita and Thelma.
She also leaves to mourn her passing, 16 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
She accepted the Lord as her Saviour in early life, joining the Cedar Bluff Baptist Church, later moving her membership to the Cabool Baptist Church. She was very devoted and faithful to her church and was regular attendant at its services as long as her health permitted. For a number of years she was a faithful teacher in the Junior Department. She was loved by everyone who knew her.
Funeral services were conducted at the Cabool Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon by Rev. O.A. Haines. Deacons of the church; Dr. H.R. Cartwright, C.J. Tindel, F.O. Timmerman, I.L. Graves, Otis Ice and Walter Beeler were pallbearers. Music was furnished by the church with Virginia Rust singing, “When I've Gone the Last Mile of the Way”, and the Quartette, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Beeler, Mrs. Gayle Helterbrand and C.J. Tindel singing “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Sometime We'll Understand”. Mrs. C.J. Tindel, organist, and David Beeler, violinist, played “In A Land Where We'll Never Grow Old”. Interment was in Cabool Cemetery under direction of Elliott's Funeral Home.
