Derwood Walter McFarland, 75, of Cooter, Mo., died Saturday, April 17, 2004, at the Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
Born Tuesday, March 5, 1929, in Halls, Tenn., he was the son of the late Tom W. McFarland and May Ethel Richardson McFarland.
Derwood was united in marriage to Wanda Hooper on August 5, 1960 in Steele.
He lived in the Cooter-Tyler area most of his life and served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He retired four years ago from Blytheville Auto Salvage in Blytheville, Ark., where he worked for 45 years.
Mr. McFarland leaves his wife, Wanda McFarland, of Steele; Two daughters: Tina McFarland Schrimsher, of Steele and Jane Middleton, of Blytheville; Three sons: Mr. and Mrs. Roy Eugene Middleton of West Palm Beach, Fla., Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ray Middleton and Joseph Wayne Middleton, all of Steele; Ten grandchildren: Johnathan Schrimsher, Gregory Middleton, Dennis Perrydore, Shanna Middleton, Rachel Middleton and Ashley Jackson, all of Steele, Trayson Middleton of Jonesboro, Ark., Angie Middleton and Amy Middleton of Humbolt, Tenn. and Joie Michelle Allison of Holland; Sixteen great-grandchildren; and One sister, Julia Poole and her husband G.W., of Cooter.
Funeral services for Mr. McFarland were held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at the Bradshaw-Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Steele with the Revs. Randy Poole and Ronald Poole officiating.
Burial was at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele with Bradshaw-Powell Funeral Home of Steele in charge.
