Elmer Leonard Nowlin, 86, of Steele, Mo., died Sunday, December 14, 2003, at the Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
Born Thursday, August 2, 1917, in Woodberry, Ark., he was the son of the late John Thomas Nowlin and Mary Elizabeth Haynes Nowlin.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Elmer Jerry Nowlin; seven brothers and sisters; four half-brothers and sisters; one granddaughter, Kim Arndt; one grandson, Matthew Burton; and one great-grandson, Matthew Burton.
Elmer was united in marriage to Polly Allen on December 7, 1940, in Kennett, Mo.
He was a farmer and a member of the Holland Baptist Church.
Mr. Nowlin leaves his wife Polly Nowlin, of Steele; Two sons: Therron Nowlin and his wife Pam, and Shawn Nowlin of Steele; Karen Davis and her husband Mike, Paula Heinrich and her husband Gary, and Tammy McKay and her husband Steven of Steele; One sister, Dorothy Lee Matthews, of Warer, La.; One brother, Huey Dean Nowlin, of Balch Springs, Texas; Twelve grandchildren: Paul Lynn Nowlin, Mark Burton, Therr Nowlin, Tad Nowlin, Laura Pletz, Emily Brackin, Megan McKay, Alexandra Nowlin, Caleb Brackin, Holly McKay, Eli Heinrich and Tristan Nowlin; and Nine great-grandchildren: Heather Arndt, Ben Arndt, Phillip Arndt, Sommer Nowlin, Kaetlyn Nowlin, Destyn Nowlin, Gerik Tyler, Denver Burton and Evin Nowlin.
Funeral services for Mr. Nowlin were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 19, 2003 at the Holland Baptist church in Holland with Rev. John Earl Dunavant officiating.
Burial was at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele with Bradshaw-Powell Funeral Home of Steele in charge.
Pallbearers were Paul Lynn Nowlin, Therr Nowlin, Tad Nowlin, John Pletz, Michael Welch and Josh Kelley.
