James Wiliiam "J.W.' Kelley, 81 of Poplar Bluff, died Thursday, July 2, 2011 at Westwood Hills Healthcare Center.
Born June 3, 1930, in Holland, he is the son of the late James Arthur and Virgie Mae Douglas Kelley. He was also preceded by a sister, Rubye Rucker.
J.W. was united in marriage to Helene Ruth Spencer on Oct. 25, 1947, in Piggott, Ark. She preceded him in death.
He was retired from farming and had also been a school bus driver and was a member of First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff. He was a graduate of Steele High School class of 1952. He enjoyed his family and extended family, flower gardening, RV camping, and meeting with friends at the coffee shop.
Mr. Kelley leaves three children: Stephen Kelley and wife Kerry of Alton, Mo., Gayle Robison and Doug Kelley and wife Becky, all of Poplar Bluff; six grandchildren: Angie Kelley of Springdale, Ark., Stephanie Hadley and husband Mike of Poplar Bluff, Charlie Robison and wife Kayla of Greensboro, N.C. John Robison and wife, Rachel Cooper of Poplar Bluff, Cassie Kelley of Kigali Rwanda, Africa, and Brandon Kelley of Annapolis, Md.; two great-grandsons: Kaleb and Huntley Hadley of Poplar Bluff; two step-grandchildren: Emmie and Timothy Webb of West Plans, Mo.;
Former daughter-in-law, Shiela Lawson, of Springdale, Ark.;
Two sisters: Joyce Garner and husband Jim of Poplar Bluff and Mary James and husband Gerald of Steele; one sister-in-law, Millie Somers and husband Ray of Crown Point, Ind.; five brothers-in-law: Jim Rucker of Blytheville, Ark., Charles Spencer and wife Keiko of Midwest City, Okla., Jim Spencer and wife Esther of Black Oak, Ark., Bill Spencer and wife Heidi of Belleville, Ill., and Fred Spencer and wife Pat of Ben Wheeler, Texas.
Funeral services for Mr. Kelley were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at the Cottrell Funeral Home Chapel in Poplar Bluff with Dr. William Vail officiating.
Burial was at Mount Zion Cemetery in Steele at 1:00 p.m.

Helen Ruth Spencer Kelley, 73, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., died Friday, April 23, 2004.
Born Jan. 21, 1931, in Holland, Mo., she was the daughter of the late David Spencer and Thelma King Spencer.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Jack Spencer.
Helene was united in marriage to James William "J.W." Kelley on Oct. 25, 1947 in Piggott, Ark.
She was a graduate of Arkansas State University, earning a bachelor's degree in education.
She worked at various jobs, as a cotton field-hand, cook, salesclerk, for the U.S. Postal Service, and as a teacher and Butler County Commissioner. She was a member of the Bethany Class at First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff.
Mrs. Kelley leaves her husband, J.W. Kelley, of Poplar Bluff; two sons: Stephen Spencer Kelley and his wife Kerry of Alton, Mo., and Thomas Douglas Kelley and his wife Becky of Poplar Bluff; one daughter: Kathryn Gayle Robison and her husband Dennis, of Poplar Bluff; six grandchildren: Angie Meyers of Springdale, Ark., Stephanie Hadley of Ellsinore, Mo., Charles Robison of Joplin, Mo., and John Robison, Cassie Kelley and Brandon Kelley, all of Poplar Bluff; two step-grandchildren: Emmie Webb and Timothy Webb, both of Alton; two great-grandsons: Kaleb Hadley and Hunter Hadley, both of Ellsinore; two step-great-granddaughters: Melanie Meyers and Jody Meyers, both of Springdale; one sister, Millie Sommers, of Crown Point, Ind.; four brothers: Jim Spencer of Black Oak, Ark., Lon Charles Spencer of Midwest, Okla., Bill Spencer of Belleville, Ill., and Fred Spencer of Ben Wheeler, Texas; three sisters-in-law: Ruby Rucker of Gosnell, Ark., Joyce Garner of Poplar Bluff, and Mary James of Steele; and her daughter-in-law, Sheila Lawson of Springdale.
Funeral services for Mrs. Kelley were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 26, 2004, at the Cotrell Funeral Home Chapel in Poplar Bluff with the Rev. William Vail officiating.
Burial was at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele with Cottrell Funeral Home of Poplar Bluff in charge.
