He graduated from high school in Summersville, MO. In 1942, he enlisted in the US Army where he proudly served his Country during World War II for 3 years as an automotive mechanic. During that time, he was stationed in such places as England, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany.

Ray had several service stations before becoming a petroleum distributor for MFA. He retired from MFA in 1982. During retirement, Ray enjoyed spending his time playing golf, hunting, fishing, and traveling with his wife. Ray was a long time member of Trinity Baptist Church in Willow Springs, the VFW, and the Willow Springs Masonic Lodge. On September 13, 2011, Ray was privileged and honored to be on one of the Ozarks Honor Flights to Washington, DC to visit the WWII Memorial, something he was very proud of. He will be greatly missed by his family and those who knew him.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Arthur; his sister, Velma Houston, and his wife Mary in 2004.
