BUTLER RITES
Funeral rites for Mrs. Alta Mary Butler, Schell City resident who died at the Cedar County memorial hospital, will be conducted at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Schell City Baptist church. The Rev. Robert Burkey will officiate and interment will be in the Green Lawn cemetery under the direction of Lewis and Sons funeral home.
Mrs. Butler was born Sept. 6, 1890, in Indiana the daughter of Thomas Whittier and Susan Mynatte Carns Medearis. On May 31, 1914, she was married to the Rev. Elwood Overton, deceased; she was then married on Jan. 3, 1924 to Joseph Dunn, also deceased. On Oct.28, 1960, she was married to Olin Butler who died June 14, 1965.
Survivors include five sons: Dale Overton of Schell City, and Wayne and Rex Overton of Hamilton, Mont., Robert Dunn of Brighton, Colo. and John Dunn of Venghazi, Liya, Africa; a stepdaughter, Bertha Short of Nevada; 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Dr. Thomas W. Medearis of Pasadena, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Susie Caruthers of El Dorado Springs, and Mrs. Cleta Kennedy of Kansas City.
