Obituary
John Thomas Whitacre died Monday morning at the home of his brother, James F. Whitacre[,] 516 West Jefferson street, aged 79 years. Death followed an illness of four days with pneumonia. Mr. Whitacre was born in Virginia and lived in that state until 18 years ago, when he came to Missouri and lived on tne [sic] Whitaere [sic] farm until two years ago when he came to Kirksville and had since made his home with his brother. Besides his brother and sister-in-law, he leaves one nephew, Edward Whitacre, three nieces, Mrs. D.M. Ferguson, of Terre Haute, Ind., Miss Hannah Whitacre, supervisor of music in Moberly, and Mrs. H.N. Elliott, of Kansas City. He also leaves three nephews and four nieces in Virginia. Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon conducted by the Rev. Ralph Smith, pastor of the First Baptist church and interment was made in Forest Park cemetery.
