Obituary
Sister Addie Bertha Barnes was born in South Caroline July 4, 1860 and after a walk of more than half a century in the way of life, she closed her earthly pilgrimage at Leon, Kansas Monday evening November 14 at 6 o'clock. Sister Barnes was converted in her girlhood, and had lived a devoted and exemplary Christian life until she was called to join the Church triumphant which is without fault before the throne of God.
In 1881 she was joined in marriage to her now bereaved husband Rev. W.R. Barnes. For more than 29 yrs she has been the stay and comfort of his life. She was ever ready to encourage him in his life work and to endure hardship and privation for Christ's Sake. She was actively engaged in the work of the church, at Leon, Kansas, being a member of the Ladies' Circle and was much loved by them all.
Sister Barnes for the past few years had not enjoyed good health, but she was never heard to complain, but patiently endured her affliction until the Master said "It is enough" and bade her come home.
She leaves a husband, one daughter and two grand daughters to mourn their loss, but these cannot sorrow as those who have no hope, for the Master comes to them and says, "I am the resurrection and the life, he that believeth in me though he die yet shall he live; and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die." The remains were brought to Kirksville, Missouri, and the funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. Howard Henry, a sister of Rev. W.R. Barnes, the husband of the deceased. Rev. H.J. Everly, her former pastor conducted the services. Sister Barnes was quite well known in Kirksville, and a large number of her friends attended the funeral and burial services.
The Ladies' Circle of the Baptist Church at Leon, Kansas where BRo. BArnes is pastor showed their love and esteem for the deceased by presenting a beautiful floral crescent.
