OBITUARY
George W. Halliday was born June 28, 1848, in Grenville County, Canada. He came to the United States in 1869, where he lived in Knox and Adair Counties, Missouri, until his death, which occurred in Kirksville, November 22, 1910.

He was united to Miss Lydia Van Horne in Edina, December 24, 1874. To this union there were born two children, Albert Edward, and Jessie May. The latter died in 1881, at the age of four years. Albert Edward survives, and is well-known in Kirksville and vicinity.

Soon after the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Halliday they moved to Kirksville, which has been their home the greater part of the time since. Mr. Halliday was in business here for a number of years, until failing health necessitated his retiring from active life.

The deceased made a profession of faith and united with the M. E. church when a young man in Canada. He united with the Presbyterian church about sixteen years ago, of which he was a member until his death.

The deceased was a man known for his honesty and integrity of purpose of life. He was highly respected by all who knew him, as a good man, a kind neighbor, and an obliging friend. The last few years of his life, he was a great sufferer, which often kept him at home, and caused him to lead a quiet and retired life.

The funeral service was conducted by Rev. W. C. Templeton, pastor of the Presbyterian church, Thursday afternoon, from the home. A large number of people were present, showing their appreciation of and bringing their tribute of love to their deceased friend.

A quartet choir rendered beautiful and appropriate hymns. The minister spoke from a part of the Twenty-third Psalm, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil. For Thou art with me, Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me." The interment was in Llewellyn cemetery, where the body was laid to rest until the resurrection. The sorrowing family have the sympathy of a great number of friends, who bear them to the throne of grace in this their time of bereavement.
