John L. "Bud" Hurley, 80, of Steele, died Thursday, August 30, 2007 at his home.

Born January 14, 1927 in Pemiscot County, he is the son of the late Richard C. Hurley and Minnie Mae Krech Hurley.

He was also preceded in death by seven sisters: Annie Hurley Mathenia, Kate Hurley Prince, Emma Hurley Driskill, Ina Hurley Lenley, Lila Mae Hurley Cole, Verna Hurley Fullerton and Lucille Hurley Martin; and four brothers: Charlie Hurley, Jess Hurley, Farris Hurley and Ernie Hurley.

Bud was united in marriage to Minnie Cornelison on July 28, 1944 in Caruthersville.

He served his country in the United States Army and was a member of Crossroads Worship Center in Braggadocio.
He was a farmer.

Mr. Hurley leaves his wife, Minnie Lee Hurley, of the home; One son, John Hurley and wife Glenda of Blytheville, Ark.

Two daughters: Judy Bishop and her husband Gary of Lebanon, Tenn., and Vickie Hurley of Steele; Six grandchildren: Denise Carr, Suzy Wess, Josh Hurley, Chris Scheetz, Lynn Bishop and Alicia Bishop; and Ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Hurley were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 2, 2007 at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Steele with Rev. Glyn Davis officiating.
Burial was at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele.

Pallbearers were Joe Tate, Howard Henry, Lee Meeks, Josh Hurley, Chris Scheetz and Lynn Bishop.

Honorary pallbearers were Vern Cornelison, Roy Fullerton, Dean Cole, and J.W. Cunningham.
