Funeral service was held Thursday, March 20, 1980 at the First Baptist Church in
Steele for Fred Lanier Byassee of Houston, Texas. Rev. Joe Smith and Rev. James
F. McCrary officiated.
Mr. Byassee was born December 28, 1927 at Deering and died March 16, 1980 at the
North West Memorial Medical Center in Houston, Texas, at the age of 52. He was
the son of the late John E. Byassee and Mattie Agee Byassee.
He was employed by United Gas Pipeline as Office Manager of Government
regulations, for 28 years. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict and was a
member of Champion Forest Baptist Church in Houston where he served as Deacon.
Mr. Byassee was united in marriage to Imogene Davis at Steele October 23, 1949.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Imogene Davis Byassee of Houston, Texas; two sons, Jay
Lanier Byassee and Lee Byron Byassee, both of the home; three brothers, Eryl
Byassee of Paducah, Ky., Noel Byassee of El Sobrante, Calif., and Ivan Byassee
of Chattanooga, Tenn; seven sisters, Mrs. Dell Brown, Oakland, Calif.; Mrs. Neba
Swain of Sacramento, Calif., Mrs. Mary Pitner of Bells, Tenn., Mrs. Maude
Bridges of Yuba City, Calif., Mrs. Myra DeGinther of Little Rock, Ark., Mrs.
Ruth Stewart of Sikeston, Mo., and Mrs. Billie Jean Sawyer of Dallas, Texas; a
number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Don Tidwell, Freddie Stewart, Larry Stewart, Jerry Byassee,
Jerry Duncan and Mike Duncan.
Burial was in the Mount Zion Cemetery in Steele with the John W. German Funeral
Home of Steele in charge of arrangements
