Anna E WILLARD

Forest-Llewellyn Cemetery
Adair County,
Missouri

May 19, 1841 - Oct 11, 1885

1st wife of Lewis Willard

Died

At the family residence in this city on the 11th inst. very suddenly of neuralgia of the heart, Mrs. Annie E. Wife of L.A. Willard.

The intelligence of her death was received in deep sadness, as well as great surprise by her many friends. She was the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dewalt Willard, of Frederick Co., Maryland, where the deceased was borne May the 8 [sic], 1841, and resided with her parents until March 9, 1869, at which date she was married to Mr. L.A. Willard and immediately left for their new home in this place. During her long residence here, Mrs. Willard became widely known and highly esteemed by all who knew her, for her purity, gentleness and kindness of character. In her were beautifully blended all the traits of true and noble Christian womanhood, wifehood and motherhood.

For her sorely bereaved husband and two youthful sons the deepest sympathy is felt. But to them as well as to her aged father and two sorrowing brothers, there is left the sweet consolation that she did her part in all the relations of life faithfully and affectionately, and has been called to her heavenly home whither her mother had preceeded [sic] her only a few years.

Early in life sister Willard gave her heart to the Savior and united with the Lutheran church with her mother. Having come west, she united by letter with the Cumberland Presbyterian church of this city, in 1878, in which communion she was much beloved as a devoted, sweet tempered, Christian woman.

"Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; Yea, saith the Spirit that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them."
