Nov 8, 1854 - Oct 23, 1884

"MITCHEL.-- The subject of this notice, William B. Mitchell, was born near Columbus, Ohio, Nov. 8th, 1854. He moved with his parents to the state of Iowa in 1871. Removed from Iowa to Adair county, Mo., in 1874 and on the 5th day of April A. D. 1883 he married a very amiable Christian lady, Miss Miriam R. Sublette. He died at home, in Kirksville, Mo., at 10 o'clock A. M., Oct. 23d, 1884. Surrounded by his family and friends. His last words were 'I trust in God.' He was a believer in the Christian religion, but not a member of the church. The funeral solemnties were conducted in the Christian chapel by Dr J. B. Mitchell and A. Russell at 10 o'clock A. M., Oct. 25, 1884. Mr. W. B. Mitchell leaves a young wife and one child, a little boy about five months old, and an aged mother who feels very keenly the loss of her noble son, who was cut down in the prime of life. He was a young man with a bright and honorable career before him and his untimely end has blasted the bright hopes and aspirations of his friends. From the chapel his remains were followed by weeping friends and committed to mother earth in the cemetery on a beautiful ridge west of town. 'Will' as he was familiarly called was noted for his honesty and industry and was loved and respected by all who knew him.
