Obituary
Mabel Edwards was born August 14th, 1892, in St. Louis, Mo.; passed out of this life to the home beyond Dec. 31st, 1911, at the age of 19 years, 4 months and 16 days. She lived in St. Louis until 1902, where the family spent two years in England, then returned to their former home, where she lived until three years ago, when she came to Kirksville to attend the Normal School where she was a student for several terms.
The deceased was united in marriage to Harry K. Rogers, March 16th, 1911. The union was a very happy one and the sundering of the earthly ties is especially sad. For a few short months they enjoyed each other's fellowship and planned for a life of continued happiness and enjoyment.
At the age of ten years the deceased united with the LaFayette Baptist church in St. Louis and when she removed to Kirksville transferred her membership to the Baptist church, of this city, of which she was an esteemed member at the time of her death. Hers was a singularly and sweet disposition; she was spiritually minded and pure in her thought and devoted. She was active in Sunday School and church work so long as health and strength permitted. She never knew anything but to live a Christian life and walked with God in a devotion and faith which was unusual for one of her years. For sometime before death came she was conscious that the end was near and was given visions of loved ones gone before and of her Christ, which are very rare and unusual. She has gone to rest to be with her Saviour, leaving sad hearts and lonely lives to mourn her loss.
She leaves a sorrowing husband, together with the members of his family, who loved her as a daughter; also a father, Dr. A. Edwards, of St. Louis, and three brothers who mourn their loss, but realize that it is her eternal gain. The sympathy of friends and neighbors go out to them in their affliction praying God's Blessing and sustaining grace to rest upon them.
The funeral service was conducted by Rev. W.C. Templeton at the family home Monday afternoon, Jan. 1st, in the presence of a large company of sympathetic friends and neighbors. The hymns sung were especially appropriate and beautifully rendered and in keeping with the life and faith of the deceased. The interment was in Forest Park cemetery, where at the morning of the resurrection was laid the body to rest until the coming of the Lord.
