Rex Irven Snapp
Funeral services for Rex Irven Snapp, 80, Branson, will be Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home, Branson. Rev. Richard Claar, Rev. Richard Toliver and Missionary Roger Euceda will officiate. Private services will be held at a later date in the Ozarks Memorial Park Cemetery, Branson. Mr. Snapp passed away Tuesday evening in the Freeman Health System, Joplin, Mo. Irven was born on Oct. 4, 1926, in Kirbyville, Mo., to Leonard Madison "Matt" and Ethel E. (Chaney) Snapp. He graduated from the Branson High School in Branson, Mo. Irven was united in marriage to Phoebe Sims on June 22, 1946, at the Presbyterian Church in Branson by Dr. John Crockett. They had enjoyed 60 1/2 years of marriage. Irven and Phoebe were blessed with six daughters. He was born and raised on a farm in Kirbyville. He raised beef cattle his entire life. He entered into the retail sales field by joining his parents, Matt and Ethel Snapp, in the grocery and monument businesses in 1944 in Kirbyville. In 1948 he moved the monument business to Branson. In 1949 he founded the Snapp Trucking Company. In 1959 he purchased the Ozarks Memorial Park Cemetery from Claude and Dorothy Binkley. He retired from the Monument and Cemetery businesses in 1982 allowing him to spend more time with his Trucking Co. and his farm. He went from one small truck in 1949 to an operation of three tractor trailer units before his retirement from the Snapp Trucking Company in 1985. Irven grew up attending the St. James General Baptist Church in Kirbyville until 1963 when he began attending the Branson Bible Church, Branson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Matt and Ethel Snapp; and two sons-in-law, Norman Finn and Ronald Dozier. He is survived by his wife, Phoebe Snapp of the home; six daughters and their spouses, Jerrie and Larry Wise of Neosho, Mo.; Sherrie and Hugh Bosworth of Lonoke, Ark.; Susan and Darrel Bearden of Branson, Mo.; Mary and Charlie Scaggs of Farmington, Ark.; Kem and Rick Adams of Springfield, Mo.; Amy and John Whorton of Ava, Mo.; one brother, Leonard Snapp and wife, Pearl, of Sacramento, Calif.; one sister, Vestal Buck and husband, Dwight, of Folsom, Calif.; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by many cousins and friends. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home, Branson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor's choice or to the Gideons International, P.O. Box 1202, Branson, MO 65616.
