Obituary.

Daniel Kent was born July, 22nd 1843, near Springfield, Ill., and died June 22nd, 1916. Being 72 years and 11 months old at the time of his death.

At the age of 13 years he moved with his parents to Schuyler County, Mo., near Queen City. He was the oldest of nine children, all of whom have preceded him in death except the youngest, Mr. J.B. Kent of Colorado Springs, Colo. Mr. Kent enlisted in the Union Army at Camp Butler, Ill., Aug. 21, 1861, under Capt. Chas. E. Lippincott, Company K. 33rd Ill. Infantry.

He served his country for 4 1-2 years, was veteranized at Indianola, Texas, Jan. 1, 1864, and was mustered out under Capt. Edwin L. Higgins at Vicksburg, Miss., Nov. 24th 1865. He was in the seige of Vicksburg, besides taking part in many other engagements.

He was married Jan. 24th 1867, to Laura Myers near Queen City Mo. To this union one child was born, Miss Emma, who with her mother is left to mourn his loss.

After coming out of the army Mr. Kent engaged in farming until 1888 when he left the farm and engaged in business. He moved to Kirksville in 1894 and conducted a furniture and undertaking business for 15 years. In 1909 he retired from this business but continued active in many other lines and has done much for the upbuilding of Kirksville and vicinity.

For the past nine weeks Mr. Kent health has been failing, being confined to his home practically all of that time. On last Sunday his family saw that he was failing rapidly and he continued to grow weaker until Wednesday night at 12 o'clock when he peacefully passed into the great Beyond.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Lilly of the Christian Church assisted by Rev. Zeigel of the Presbyterian Church at the residence on North Mulanix Street, Saturday June, 24th at 1:30 o'clock.

At the grave the beautiful services of the Odd Fellow were held, of which Order Mr. Kent had been a long time member.

The G.A.R. attended the funeral in a body and acted as an escort, after which the body was laid to rest in Forest Cemetery.
