Mrs. Tabitha S. Fleming died in this city, June 4th, 1898, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.J. Ashlock. Was born in Summer [sic] county, Tennessee, Aug. 30, 1826, belonging to the well known Bradford family, her father, Wm. Bradford, having been made captain in the Revolution at the age of sixteen. She was educated in Huntsville, Ala.

In the year 1845, with her widowed mother she moved to Lexington, Mo., making her home with a brother, Major Robt. Bradford. Her brother's wife being an invalid, she took charge of the home. Here was so often gathered the young men and women of LaFayette county, and Miss Bradford became famed as a hostess.

While a young lady she was a member of the Methodist church. In 1851 she married John M. Fleming of Lexington, and a short time after joined the Baptist church.

During the war their home was thrown open for the care of the wounded soldiers. Mrs. Fleming dressing their wounds and caring for them. A number of both these who wore the blue and the gray still live to testify to her tender care.

A battle under Gen. Price was to be fought near them and Mrs. Fleming superintended the removal of her wounded boys to auother [sic] street. Their beautiful home was destroyed under orders of Gen. Mulligan. About three years ago Mr. Fleming was taken sick, she was constantly at his side, giving words of cheer and reading to him. When he became helpless, she was more devoted than ever. When death came she said "My prayer has been answered, God has given me strength to the last."

Just six months from the day of his burial she breathed her last.

Her excellent council and cheerful face were an inspiration to her home circle. Gentleness, a quiet dignity, and an unfaltering trust characterized her life.

Four children are left, William B., of Kansas City; Robert F. of Texas; Mrs. Johnston, of Minu [sic]. and Mrs. Ashlock of this place.
