James A. "Buddy" Bivins, 73, of Steele, Mo. died Friday, September 12, 1997, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn.
Born December 29, 1923, at Steele, he was the son of the late Delbert Bivins and Lizzie Wallace.
A veteran of the United States Navy during World War II, serving in the South Pacific, he was employed at Utley Lumber Company as assistant manager until ill health overtook him. On August 14, 1948, he was united in marriage with Jo Pritchard.
Mr. Bivins leaves his wife, Mrs. Jo Bivins, of Steele; Two sons: Jerry Bivins of Steele and Joey Bivins of Bartlett, Tenn.; A sister, Marjorie Taylor, of Caseyville, Ill.; Three granddaughters: Casey, Jennifer and Ashley; One grandson, Shannon; and A great-grandson, Dylan.
Funeral services for Mr. Bivins were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 15, 1997, at the John W. German Funeral Home in Steele with Rev. Michael Funderburk officiating.
Burial was at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele, with John W. German Funeral Home of Steele in charge. [Democrat Argus, Caruthersville, MO, 1997]

Thursday, October 23 1997: Mrs. Jo Maxine Bivins, 69, of Steele, Mo., died Thursday, October 16, 1997, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
Born July 22, 1928 in Cooter, Mo., she was a daughter of the late Dolen and Irene Taylor Pritchard.
She was united in marriage with James "Buddy" Bivins at Cooter, Mo., August 14, 1948. He preceded her in death September 12, 1997.
A member of the First Baptist Church in Steele, Mo., she was a presser at the Steele Apparel until she retired.
Mrs. Bivins leaves two sons: Joey Bivens of Bartlett, Tenn., and Jerry Bivins of Steele, Mo.; a brother, Alfred D. Pritchard, of Hayti, Mo.; a sister, Mary Lucy, of Hartwell, Ga.; four grandchildren: Shannon, Casey, Jennifer and Ashley Bivins; one great-grandchild, Dillon Bivins; and a cousin, Jean German, of Hayti, Mo.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bivins were held Sunday, October 19, 1997 in the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Steele, Mo., with Bro. Michael Funderburk and Bro. Warren Barron officiating.
Burial was at the Mount Zion Cemetery in Steele with John W. German Funeral Home of Steele in charge of services.
Pallbearers were Kelley Joe Rhodes, Riley Rhodes, Gene Reams, Shannon Bivins, Alfred Pritchard and Murlon Bishop.
Honorary pallbearers were Randy Birmingham, Larris Birmingham, Wayne Birmingham, Gary Birmingham, Ronnie Bivins and David Moorehead.
