of Macon, MO, died Thursday, Nov.
7, 1991:, at the Boone Hospital
Center in Columbia.
Funeral services will be
held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the
Hutton & McElwain Funeral
Home in Macon. Rev. Allen
Vancil and Rev. Dwayne Wellborn,
Les's cousin, will officiate.
Burial will be in the
Maple Hills Cemetery in
Kirksville. Visitation will be
from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday at
the funeral home. Memorials LESLIE WELLBORN are suggested to the Macon United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
Les was born Jan, 3, 1932, in Kirksville, the oldest child of Chester Earl and Norma Smith Wellborn, On March 3, 1955, in Brashear, he married Evelyn Mae Crim. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Debra Lynne Wellborn, a son-in-law, Bryon Smith Brier, and a grandson, Matthew Wellborn Bier, all of Quincy, IIL; a sister, Betty Gore of Kansas City; two brothers, Earl F. Wellborn of Salisbury and Jimmy D. Wellborn of Storm Lake, Iowa; his step-mother, Carmelita Wellbon of Kirksville, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews; and a sister-in-law, Charlene White of Lee Summit. Charlene had made her home with Les and Evelyn from the age of 11 after the
death of her and Evelyn's parents.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and a brother, Wesley N. Wellborn in April of 1990. Les graduated from Kirksville High School with the class of 1950. Following graduation he spent four years in the U.S, Navy during the Korean Conflict, He graduated from Kirksville State Teachers College in 1961 with a bachelor of science in education degree, having majored in art. Les taught art in the elementary school at Macon from 1961-1966. He was an agent for Farmer's Insurance Group, and in 1968 he started working for the Division of Family Services in Macon as a caseworker. He progressed from caseworker to supervisor, eventually becoming Macon County director. He transferred from county director to the legal section of the Department of Social Services in 1979, as a hearing
officer, which was the position he held at the time of his
death. His office was in Macon, but he traveled to 30 counties in Northeast Missouri in his work. He had been active in the Macon Jaycees, serving as a local and regional officer. He had belonged to the local Bass Club, and was an avid bass fisherman. He loved to garden. Les was a member of the Macon United Methodist Church.
