Alice Isabelle Rose, age 93, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Sunday (December 18, 1994) in the Kirksville Manor Care Center in Kirksville, Missouri.
She was born southwest of Novelty, Missouri, on June 4, 1901 the daughter of James Corneiltus and Estella Amanda Browning Rose.
She is survived by two sisters, Elsie Pauline Kortuim of Newton, Iowa and Virginia Rose Lay of Kirksville, Missouri; two brothers, Hiram Browning Rose and his wife Olice of Novelty, Missouri, James Lealise Rose and his wife Cleta of Kirksville; and a sister-in-law Opal Irene Rose of Kirksville, Missouri; two nieces, Colleen Daggett and her husband Norman of Vovelty, Missouri, Kaye Rose of Muscaltine, Iowa; two nephews, Benny Herman Rose of Albuquerque, New Mexico, James Alfred Rose and his wife Mary of Seaford, New Your; six great-nieces; two great-nephews; two great-great-nieces; three great-great-nephews; one great-great-niece and one great-great-great-nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Herman Levi Rose; one nephew Leroy Herron Rose; and one brother-in-law Ira Bruce Lay.
Alice was raised on a farm south of Novelty, Missouri where she received her education in the Mote rural school. She was a graduate from the Novelty High School and received her teaching certificate from the Kirksville State Teachers College.
From 1920 to 1943 she was employed as a rural school teacher in Missouri, with one year in Colorado.
On October 1943 she moved to Iowa where she was employed in an ordinance plant at Ankeny, Iowa until 1945. On September 18, 1945 she began her employment with the United States Post Office in Altoona, Iowa as an Postal Clerk retiring on December 20, 1953 at which time she moved to Kirksville, Missouri.
Alice was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, a member of the Humane Society, and was a member of the Novelity Christian Church having been baptized on November 9, 1914 at the age of thirteen. She loved flowers, birds, and people.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday (December 20, 1994) at 2:00 p.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Park View Chapel in Kirksville, Missouri. The Reverend Archie Cooper will officiate the services. Burial will be in the Maple Hills Cemetery in Kirksville, Missouri. Mucic will be recorded selections, "In the Garden" and Precious Memories."
Casket bearers will be Delbert Hartsock, Larry Olson, Robert Pickett, James Hunsaker, Norman Daggett and Ursa Lay.
Visitation will be after 2:00 p.m. on Monday (December 19, 1994) with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Homes Park View Chapel Kirksville, Missouri.
