Clarence Roy "C.R." Masten, 78, of Columbia, formerly of Kirksville, died of cancer, Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia, MO .

Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, at the Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville with the Rev. Jim Robinson officiating. Burial with military rites is in Maple Hills Cemetery in Kirksville.

Clarence Masten was born Nov. 18, 1922, in Weaubleau, Hickory Co. MO to Clarence Roy and Vena Josephine Brashears Masten.

He married Florence Eugenia Tindall, daughter of Lottie Rowe Tindall and she preceded him in death. He later married Betty Noe on March 19, 1950, in Kirksville and she survives.

He graduated from Kirksville High School in 1940. He served in the Navy, where he was a chief aviation pilot.

He had been employed as a grocery store manager for MFA Exchange in Kirksville and later purchased the John Deere dealership in Brookfield. He retired to Columbia after 30 years as a purchasing manager with Missouri Farmer's Cooperative.

Other survivors include three sons, Jim Joe Masten of Tyler, Texas, Michael R. Masten of Cave Creek, Ariz., and Steve W. Masten of Kirksville; a sister, Kathryn Holliday of Hollister; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Tom Masten; and a brother, Joe Gene Masten.
