Funeral services for Reverend Jimmy L. Swearingen, 76, West Plains, will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Pomona, Missouri under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Reverend Swearingen died 8:39 a.m., Saturday, November 20, 2010 at his home. He was born November 15, 1934 at Arkana, Arkansas to Vero "Bus" and Exie Dunbar Swearingen. He received his education in the schools of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Norfork, Arkansas, San Antonio, Texas and was a graduate of the Bible Baptist College, Springfield, Missouri. On March 28, 1992, he was married at Mountain Home, Arkansas to Lowena Wheat. He worked for H.E. B. Grocery Company in Texas, starting as a bottle boy and working his way to store manager. He was owner of JIMSCO Company which published a county information guide and directory. Reverend Swearingen was a member of the gospel for 31 years having ministered in Baptist congregations in Arkansas, Texas, Oregon and Southern Missouri. He enjoyed horseback riding, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Lowena Swearingen, of the family home; six children, Tim Swearingen, wife, Kimberly, Mountain Home, Arkansas, Randy Swearingen, wife, Shelly, Mountain Home, Arkansas, Bill Dutton, wife, Connie, Peabody, Kansas, Michael Reeves, West Plains,, Brenda Turner, West Plains and Joella Nicholson, husband, Doug, Newton, Kansas; fifteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Billy Vero Swearingen, wife, Elva, Sabinal, Texas; two sisters, Shirley Byrd, husband, Bob, Mountain Home, Arkansas and Sue Day, husband, Dick, Mountain Home, Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, one son, James Paul Swearingen and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lowell Wheat and Nancy Wheat, precede him in death.
Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Burial will be at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideon Bible Society or Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund and left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. [ozarkareanetwork.com, Nov. 23, 2010]
