Funeral services for J. C. Derrick, 85, West Plains, were Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010, at the First Baptist Church of West Plains under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Mr. Derrick died at 3:15 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, at Ozarks Medical Center. He was born April 27, 1925, at County Line, Ark., to Roy Addison and Sarah Darcus "Byrd" Hall Derrick. Mr. Derrick graduated from the Bakersfield High School in 1943 and on Dec. 28, 1948, was married at West Plains, Mo., to Bobbye Taylor. He was a veteran having served with the U.S. Army during World War II; remembering "D Day" very well. His favorite pastime was playing golf and working at the West Plains Country Club Pro Shop. Mr. Derrick was a Christian and a member of the First Baptist Church for many years. He is survived by his wife, Bobbye Derrick, of the family home; daughter-in-law, Debra Derrick, St. Louis, Mo.; one sister, Kathryn Lott, West Plains; his nieces and nephew, Vicky Birdsong, Debra Jorgensen and Steve Lott, all of West Plains; and several cousins. His parents and one son, Ron Derrick, precede him in death. Burial was in the Veterans Section at the Howell Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the West Plains Zizzer Booster Club for the high school golf program and may be left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. (howellcountynews.com)
