Theodore Ernest Stoops, 82, went to be with the Lord at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at his daughter's home in West Plains, Missouri.
He was born in Quay, Oklahoma, on October 17, 1927 to Ernest Wayne and Ethel Gertrude Stoops. He attended school in Markham. When he was ten, the family moved to Yale, Oklahoma. Ted often spoke of lean times while growing up in a household of nine children during the great depression. Those times made him frugal and shaped his life.
Ted served in the U.S. Army with the first infantry supply section in Korea. His duties included assisting in the receiving, storage and issuance of supplies for the unit.
He was united in marriage in Cleveland, Oklahoma, to Oleta Joan Moses on December 21, 1951. To this union of 57 years were born six children, Connie, Steven, Timothy, Andrea, Catherine and Pamela.
After his military service, he moved to Wichita, Kansas, and began working for Ryder Truck Rental. He transferred to Dodge City, Kansas, in 1967 as the service manager. Ted worked for Ryder for 25 years.
The family moved to West Plains, Missouri, in 1976 when they purchased the Sahara Motel. They built and operated Hyways and Byways Christian Bookstore on North Highway 63 in West Plains for several years. They retired in 1995 and moved to Cabool, Missouri.
Ted was a man of strong, quiet faith. He attended Calvary Temple Church in Mtn. Grove, Missouri. He enjoyed volunteering at Calvary Temple Love Center. He loved playing dominoes, having taught most of the grandchildren to play. Ted and Oleta made a quilt for each of their grandchildren. Family was a high priority to them. They never missed family reunions, graduations, weddings and other family functions.
He is survived by his six children, Connie Schwartz and husband Rick of Beatrice, Nebraska, Steve Stoops and wife Sue of Phoenix, Arizona, Tim Stoops and wife Trish of West Plains, Annie Vargas and husband Doug of West Plains, Cathy Evans and husband Randy of Garden City, Kansas, and Pamela Clemments and husband Paul of Rapid City, South Dakota; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Loyce of Phoenix, Arizona; and a sister, Yvonne Dean of Yale, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and one sister.
Services were at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 25, 2010, at Calvary Temple Church in Mtn. Grove with Pastor Bill Morris officiating. He had 15 pallbearers, all of them grandchildren. Interment was in Howell Memorial Park Cemetery in Pomona, Missouri, under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool.

Oleta Joan Stoops, 80, went to be with the Lord at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, October 15, 2009, at her home in Cabool, Missouri.
She was born September 3, 1929 in Fairfax, Oklahoma, to Henry Thomas and Mary Jane Moses. She graduated in 1948 from Pawnee High School, Pawnee, Oklahoma, and was an enrolled member of the Pawnee Indian Nation.
She was united in marriage in Cleveland, Oklahoma, to Theodore Stoops on December 22, 1951. To this union of 57 years were born six children: Connie, Steven, Timothy, Andrea, Catherine, and Pamela.
After their marriage, Oleta joined Ted in Wichita, Kansas, later moving to Dodge City, Kansas. The family moved to West Plains, Missouri, in 1976 when they purchased the Sahara Motel. They built and operated Hyways and Byways Christian Bookstore on North Highway 63 in West Plains for several years. They retired in 1995 and moved to Cabool.
Oleta was a dedicated Christian and enjoyed Bible study, church, and Christian fellowship. She attended Calvary Temple Church in Mtn. Grove, Missouri. She loved passing out tracts and she and Ted spent one summer volunteering for the Pilgrim Tract Society in North Carolina. She enjoyed playing Chinese checkers and dominoes and was a fierce competitor. She made a quilt for every one of her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking and caring for her family and they said she made the best peanut brittle and cornbread dressing in the world. Her children and grandchildren always knew that her prayers followed them wherever they went.
She is survived by her husband, Ted Stoops, of the family home; six children, Connie Schwartz and husband Rick of Beatrice, Nebraska, Steve Stoops and wife Sue of Phoenix, Arizona, Tim Stoops and wife Trish of West Plains, Annie Vargas and husband Doug of West Plains, Cathy Evans and husband Randy of Garden City, Kansas, and Pamela Clemments and husband Paul of Rapid City, South Dakota; fifteen grandchildren: and eleven great-grandchildren with a twelfth one to be born soon.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Raymond "Sonny."
Services were at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 19, 2009, at Calvary Temple Church in Mtn. Grove with Pastor Bill Morris officiating. She had sixteen pallbearers, all of them grandchildren. Interment was in Howell Memorial Park Cemetery in Pomona, Missouri, under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool. [Cabool Enterprise, Oct 2, 2009]
