Mass of the Resurrection for Waif Strain, 88, West Plains, MO, was Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Father Joe Weidenbenner officiating under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc., West Plains.
He was born the son of the late Orville O. Strain and Ola J. Barton Strain, on Jan. 15, 1922, in Alton, MO, and died Aug. 25, 2010, in West Plains, MO.
He was united in marriage Nov. 18, 1955, in Hong Kong to Jane Dwyer.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Dwyer Strain, of the home, West Plains, MO; one brother, Robert "Bob" Strain and wife, Nettie, Branson, MO; many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Wallace Strain, Earl Strain, Waymon Strain and Mack Strain; four sisters, Gladys Nickless, Agnes Darr, Helen Combs and Juanita Coffman.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Plains, MO. He was a gunner's mate on the USS Mississippi, BB-41, during World War II, Pacific Campaign. He was present in Toyko Bay during the surrender and occupation of Japan, V-J Day. He also was lifetime member of VFW Post 1014, Alton, MO.
Burial was in Howell Memorial Park Cemetery with full military rites, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc., West Plains. (Howell County News, Sept. 1, 2010)
