Funeral services were held Friday, December 26, 1952 for Mrs. Rosa Lee Allison Funderburk, who passed away Wednesday. Services were held at the Methodist Church at Cooter.
Mrs. Funderburk was born August 12, 1867, at Acworth, Georgia, and died December 24th at Cooter, at the age of 85 years, 4 months and 12 days. She was a member of the Cooter Methodist Church, and has been for the past 40 years; a Christian since early childhood.

She came to the Cooter community in 1884, and has lived there since that time. She was married to Virgil Alexander Funderburk April 12th 1885, who was her husband and companion for 65 years until his death 18 months ago. To this union was born eleven children, three of whom preceded her in death, Ida, Perry and Albert Funderburk.

She leaves to mourn her passing Dallas Funderburk of Modesto, California, Virgil Funderburk, Mrs. J.W. Campbell, Mrs. Burl Castman and Mrs. Della Hinson of Cooter. Mrs. Andrew Crawford of Micola, and Mrs. Jim Stone and Elmer Funderburk of Steele; thirty-one grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Funderburk spent most of her life as an active Steward and in a very unselfish manner in helping others. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.

Honorary pallbearers were Louis Frazier, Eddie Hagen, Walter Holly, Jack Neal, Jack Rushing and J.A. Brown.
Active pallbearers were Floyd Wagster, Tom Hopper, James Brown, Lawrence Coleman, Gus Cooper and Arnold Jones.

Virgil Alexander Funderburk, pioneer of this country and a retired farmer, died at his home in Cooter Saturday, July 14, at the age of 93.

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at Cooter Methodist Church with Rev. Marvin Niblack officiating.

Mr. Funderburk came to this community from Mississippi with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Perry Funderburk, at the age of 2. He was reared here and helped clear the ground on which Cooter is built.

He was the first mail carrier in Pemiscot County, carrying mail on horse back from Cottonwood to Oak Ridge. He helped build the first Church at Cooter and was a member of the school board of directors for several years.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rosa Funderburk; three sons, Dallas Funderburk of Modesto, Calif., Virgil Funderburk of Cooter, Elmer Funderburk of Steele; five daughters, Mrs. J.W. Campbell of Cooter, Mrs. Burl Castman, Cooter, Mrs. Andrew Crawford of Steele, Mrs. James Stone of Steele, Mrs. James Hinson of Cooter; one half-sister, Mrs. James Mahoney of California, 32 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery with German Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Charles Barger, William Bryant, Floyd Wagster, James Brown, Abie Rushing and Lawrence Coleman.
