Glen Dale Smith, 40 year resident of this community, was found dead in his barber shop Friday afternoon, August 12, shortly after 5 o'clock. Mr. Smith suffered a fatal heart attack.
Born March 21, 1897, in Tipton County, Tennessee, he passed away at the age of 58 years, 4 months and 21 days. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the First Baptist Church.
He was united in marriage with Miss Rita Manning in 1926. Members of his family have been prominent in the business and civic life of this community.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rita Smith; two brothers, Shirley and Floyd, both of Steele; two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Glass of Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. Mable Potts of Steele.
Services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 3:30 in the Steele Baptist Church with Rev. Howard Hamrick and Rev. Marvin Niblack officiating.
German Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements and interment was at Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Mrs. Rita Smith, 64, was fatally injured and two other Steele residents, Mrs. Imogene Bailey and Miss Martha Bailey, were hurt in a car-bus collision in Memphis last Wednesday.
Miss Bailey, 19, of Holland was the driver of the car involved and the injured passenger was her mother, Mrs. Cletus (Imogene) Bailey.
Miss Bailey suffered a broken collar bone and Mrs. Bailey received a severe cut on one leg. All three women were taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Memphis following the accident. Mrs. Smith died after being in the hospital three days and both Miss Bailey and her mother were released from the hospital early this week.
The accident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at an intersection. Miss Bailey, travelling on North Parkway, had stopped at the intersection and then started forward when a Transit bus struck the left side of her car and knocked it 123 feet.

Funeral services were held April 25 at First Baptist Church here for Mrs. Smith who died April 23, 1966 following the accident.
The Rev. James F. McCrary officiated, assisted by the Rev. Charles Miller.
Born August 3, 1901, at Rector, Ark., Mrs. Smith was the daughter of George J. and Mary Manning. She was married to Glen D. Smith at Osceola, Ark. May 18, 1925. He preceded her in death on August 12, 1955.
She leaves a brother, Jack L. Manning of Steele; one sister, Mrs. Imogene Bailey of Holland; three nieces, Mrs. Rita Ann Koeppen of Stamford, Conn.; Miss Martha Jean Bailey of Holland; and Mrs. Gail Self of Eau Gallie, Fla.; also two nephews: Jack D. Manning of Kennett and Park Braden of Titusville, Fla.
Pallbearers were Clarence McCollum, Harbert Hudgens, Clyan Larue, George Shipley, and Joe Saliba.
Burial was at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele with the John W. German Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
