Funeral services for Rex Henry, 69, West Plains, Missouri, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 4, 2012 at the Langston Street Chapel of the Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Mr. Henry died at 9:15 a.m., Thursday, November 1, 2012 at his home.
He was born December 28, 1942 at West Plains, Missouri, to Tom B. and Ruth Adeline (Charles) Henry. He graduated from the West Plains High School with the Class of 1961 and had attended the Missouri State University. On December 30, 1967, he was married at West Plains, Missouri to Teresa Ann Langston. He was a veteran having served with the United States Army. He traveled much of Southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas and most recently, the Springfield area as a food broker for Acosta Foods. He served the West Plains Community as a member of the Park Board, Optimist Club and various civic organizations; he, also enjoyed his time spent with his grandchildren and working in his yard. Mr. Henry attended the Pomona Christian Church.
If you knew him, you loved him. Adored by his wife, kids, grandkids, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends, Terry "Rex" Henry exuded the kind of quiet but magnetic energy that drew people – old and young – to him. Always smiling, cracking a joke, or laughing at someone else's, he knew only how to be good, loving, kind and -without fail-to see the good in everyone he encountered. He never met a stranger and made a friend of any stranger he met. His life's journey included being class president during his high school years, soldier during Vietnam, banker, "bologna peddler" (self-titled name for his food sales career), and golfer, but undoubtedly he would claim his greatest joy and most important role as family man. Humble, gentle, forgiving and loving, he epitomized the spirit of a godly man. His name was entered into the Book of Life at the age of 15 when he was saved and baptized and his family rejoices in the anticipation of seeing him again in heaven.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa Henry, of the family home; two children, Melanie Williams, husband, Paul, Battlefield, Missouri and Brad Henry and friend, Lauren Sanders, West Plains, Missouri; two grandchildren; Abbi Montgomery and Gavin Roy; two brothers, O. D. Henry, wife, Lindy and Mike Henry; one sister, Susie Wallace; his step-grandchildren, Melanie William, Danielle Williams and Jordan Williams; two sisters-in-law, Treena Caton, husband, Owen and Brenda Land, husband, Larry; one brother-in-law, Larry Langston, wife, Kathy; his step-father-in-law, Elbert Surritte; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, one grandson, Seth Roy, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wayne and Irene Langston, one sister-in-law, Karen Henry and two brothers-in-law, Kelly Wallace and Curtis Hardin, precede him in death.
Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Saturday, November 3rd, at the Langston Street Chapel of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Howell Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Three Rivers Hospice and may be left at the funeral home. On line condolences may be expressed at robertsondrago.com.
