James Edward Clifton, 75, of Steele died Monday, June 6, 2011 in Steele.
Born April 11, 1936 in McDonald, Ohio., he is the son of the late Robert W. Clifton and Carrie B. Wells Clifton. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Fred and Richard Clifton; and two sisters, Marjorie Jerina and Iris Hendrix.
James was united in marriage to Myma Jackson on Oct. 13, 1959 in Memphis, Tenn. She preceded him in death.
He retired having served his country in the United States Navy. He served during the Vietnam war and received a Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Meritorious Unit Commendation.
Mr. Clifton leaves two sons: James E. Clifton Jr. of Cloud Croft, N. Mex. and Cliff Clifton of Alma, Ark.; Three daughters: Terry Timbs of Millington, Tenn., Jamie Proctor of Bartlett, Tenn. and Becky Jernigan of Paragould, Ark.; Two sisters: Mildred Young of Brandon, Fla. and Carol Frantz of Temple Terrace, Fla.; and Ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services for Mr. Clifton were held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 10 at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele with Mr. Tim Howard officiating.
Pallbearers were Randy Timbs, Terry Bell, Less Timbs, Eddie Jernigan, Jay Timbs and Nick Clifton.
Powell Funeral Home of Steele was in charge of services.
