Helen Maxine Larsen was born May 19, 1950 in Howell County, MO the daughter of Clyde Henry and Alma (West) Henry. She passed away February 18, 2013 in Alexandria, VA at the age of 62 years.
She was united in marriage to Gregory Noel Larsen on July 24, 1971 in Mt Zion church at Pomona, MO.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and one brother-in-law Fawzy Simon; and two nieces, Baby Madison Fuller and Teresa Franco.
She is survived by her husband Greg Larsen of Alexandria, VA; one brother David Henry and wife Marguerite of Cody, WY; two sisters Louise Simon of Springfield, MO and Edith Parker and husband Don of Springfield, MO; nieces and nephews Tammy Kellen and husband Dean Alcester SD, children Nikki Fuller and husband Tristan, Austin and Carli Sioux Falls SD Amy Kellen and Kiera Sioux Falls SD, Tracy Hannenburg and husband Dan and Alina Marie; Fawzy (Tom) Simon and wife Penny Buffalo MO; LtCol Mark Parker and wife Michelle and children Ryan and Jacob Seoul South Korea; Ann Henry Fredericksburg, VA; Leslie Henry Phoenix, AZ, Jessica Larsen Salt Lake City UT; Robert Franco surviving husband of Teresa Franco Albuquerque NM; and a host of other family and friends.
Helen was loved and will be sadly missed by many. Helen was a hard working lady of many talents. The joy of her life was her little Yorkie, Barney, who followed her everywhere. Her husband greatly admired and respected her innate humanity, courage, and deep sensitivities. She was always growing, learning, and maturing; and always ready and willing to share with others.
Helen began her career as a Nurse's Aide in Washington State and soon became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She rapidly proved her capabilities as a nurse administering to terminal cancer patients at the Ellis Fischel State Cancer Hospital in Columbia MO. She extended her knowledge of health care while continuing to work on her Bachelors Degree by providing investigative analysis for fraud of medical records for the Tennessee Valley Authority of Knoxville TN as part of the TVA Police Force. She also became a badged investigator for the TN Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), investigating over 200 cases. She finished her Bachelors Degree at the University of Missouri-St Louis with a major in policing. This entire time she was also the Executive Director of the Missouri State Association of LPNs (MOSALPN) actively promoting nursing with national organizations, state organizations, and the state legislature; she then became Executive Director (ExDir) of the National Association (NAPNES) and continued in this role until her death. Her contributions to nursing on the national scene are internationally recognized as well as nationally, and include the editing and publication of the Journal of Practical Nursing (JPN) distributed worldwide. She regularly served in advisory roles to State Boards of Nursing and other National and International nursing and AMA nursing activities. While serving as the ExDir of NAPNES in St Louis she received her Jurisprudence Doctorate (JD) from St Louis University School of Law. She began work in Oklahoma as a staff lawyer to an insurance company successfully prosecuting and defending a variety of cases. She was admitted to the Oklahoma Bar in April 1992. She was admitted to the US Court of Appeals, 10th Circuit in September 2005. She initiated several businesses in her career. One was a legal practice immigrating health care workers. While practicing law and still serving NAPNES as ExDir, she studied and became a Questioned Document Examiner QDE and Handwriting Analyst. She formed another company Advanced Presentation of Forensic Evidence (APFE) to work with and conduct analyses able to be used in a court proceeding. She volunteered to work with Montgomery County MD Police at the urging of one of her staff members in NAPNES and became a highly respected and valued member of the Community Policing efforts of Montgomery County and other law enforcement organizations. She was honored with a prestigious award for Community Policing effort. Colleagues, police officers, detectives, and attorneys regularly recognized her exceptional capabilities and competence. While fighting cancer and the complications of treatments she continued all her endeavors to the end, only relinquishing when no longer physically able. [duncanfuneralhomes.com]
