Funeral service was held July 7, 1969 at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Steele for James Alvin Burgett, who died July 5, 1969. He was 49. Judson Woodbridge officiated.
A truck driver, Mr. Burgett had lived in this area for 30 years.
During World War II, Mr. Burgett served with the 79th Engineers in the Luzon and New Guinea campaigns where he was awarded two Bronze Stars for gallantry in action. He also earned the good Conduct Medal.
He leaves his father, W.H. Burgett; his step-mother, Reggie Burgett, both of Steele; three brothers, Travis Burgett of St. Louis, James Walter Burgett of Lowery AFB in Denver, and Wilburn Burgett of East St. Louis, Ill.; also five sisters, Maude Gibson of St. Louis, Dimple Burgett of Chicago, Shirley Arnold of Chicago, Henrietta Henson of Farmington, Mo., and Grace Ford of Mississippi.
Burial was at Mount Zion Cemetery with the John W. German Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
