Mrs. Sarah Julia Emerson, Who Died Friday, Was A Native Of Novelty

Mrs. Sarah Julia Emerson, 74, of Novelty, died at 9:50 o'clock Friday night, Jan. 12, 1973, at Livingston Manor Rest Home in Chillicothe where she had been since July. Prior to that time she had been a resident of the Knox County Nursing Home several months. She was the widow of Pearl Harvey Emerson and they spent their married life in the Novelty vicinity.

Funeral services were at 1 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Novelty Christian Church, of which she was a member, with the Reverends Bob Schofield of Lancaster and Richard L. Ralstin of Novelty, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Novelty Cemetery. The body was at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina until 9 o'clock Monday morning when it was taken to the church.

She is survived by three sons and two daughters, James Harvey Emerson of Decatur, Ga., John Emerson of Chillicothe and Kenneth Emerson of Orange, Calif., Eva Ruth, Mrs. Thomas Boice, of Union Lake, Mich., and Mrs. Evelyn Burns of Hudson, Mich., and 10 grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Estelle Voyles, of Corpus Christi, Texas, and three brothers, Clarence O. Perry of Macon, Ralph Perry of Baring and John Perry of Novelty.

Mrs. Emerson was born March 10, 1898, at Novelty, a daughter and one of the ten children of William Richard and Eva Mae Browning Perry. She and Mr. Emerson were married May 1, 1921, at the home of the bride's mother west of Novelty on the farm northwest of Novelty of the bridegroom's parents. They were the parents of seven children, those who survive and a daughter, Mabel Bernice, who died April 18, 1936, at the age of four years and a son, William Robert, in infancy. Mr. Emerson preceded her in death March 15, 1970. Mrs. Emerson was a charter member of the Willing Workers Extension Club of Novelty.

She was also preceded in death by her father Nov. 1, 1919, her mother, April 2, 1953, three brothers, Arthur, who died in infancy, Joe Perry, Aug 2, 1963, and William Henry Perry, Aug. 19, 1967, and by two sisters, Mrs. Lola Francis, June 9, 1971, and Mrs. Alice Brown, Feb. 7, 1972.

Pearl Emerson Dies at Home Near Novelty

Pearl H. Emerson, 78, of five miles northwest of Novelty, died unexpectedly Sunday morning at eight o'clock at his home. Born Nov. 24, 1891, near Novelty, he was the son of James V. and Mattie Lockett Emerson. On May 1, 1921 he married Sarah Julia Perry who survives.

Also surviving are five children, Mrs. Thomas (Eva Ruth) Boyce of Union Lake, Mich., James Emerson of Decatur, GA., John Emerson of Chillicothe, Mrs. Richard (Evelyn) Burns of Blissfield, Mich., and Kenneth Emerson of Las Vegas, Nev.; ten grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. John (Carrie) Epperson of LaPlata and Mrs. F. O. (Nora) Ray of Kirksvile.

He was preceded in death by one son, William Robert Emerson; one daughter, Mabel Bernice, and one sister, Mrs. Virgil (Grace) Norris.
