Wounds In War the Cause of A Suicide
ILL FROM WORRY AND ARMY WOUNDS, ENDED LIFE
The body of Clifford Van Laningham arrived in Novinger Monday and was laid to rest in the Novinger cemetery Tuesday. Services were conducted by Rev. Glen Lewis and with boyhood friends acting as pall bearers.
The following dispatch from Bremerton, Wash., in the Seattle Post Intelligencer explains Clifford's death:
"Authorities here consider suicide because of ill health resulting from wounds received in France during the World War caused the death of Clifford Van Laningham, 33, ex-army lieutenant and proprietor of the Wigwam, a summer resort at Kitsap Lake, three miles from Bremerton.
"Van Laningham's body was found by his hired man after repeated knockings at his cabin door had failed to get a response. He had a bullet wound thru his temple.
"Van Laningham came to Bremerton in 1919 from war service. With his wife he for a time managed a local hotel."
The entire community sorrows with the bereaved family at Clifford's tragic death.
