Richard Stephen Carroll was born April 18, 1942, in Willow Springs, Mo., and was married to Margaret Flannery on September 26, 1965. They enjoyed 38 years together. They have four children, Charles of San Diego, Calif., Stephanie Castillo of Phoenix, Ariz., Michael of Springfield, Mo., and Susan Buttenob of Austin, Texas; and five grandchildren. Richard attended SMSU and spent five years in the U.S. Army serving overseas in Europe. Mr. Carroll spent 32 1/2 years working for the Missouri Highway Patrol as an electrical field engineer in Troops G, E, D, and General Headquarters in Jefferson City. In his spare time he enjoyed amateur radios, reading, researching the Internet and traveling with his wife to see his grandchildren, family and friends. He was a member of the AARP, Amateur Radio League, a charter member of the Willow Springs Lions Club, National Rifle Association and the Missouri State Troopers Association. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, John and Roxie Carroll; a sister, Neta; and a brother, David. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; four children; five grandchildren; brothers, Charles of Willow Springs, Mo., Cliff of Newton, Kan., and Wendell of Pampa, Texas; and sisters, Shirley Custer and Helen Hoffman, both of Peoria, Ill. Visitation is 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today in Willow Springs Funeral Home. Funeral service is 2 p.m. Wednesday in United Methodist Church, with interment in Willow Springs Cemetery following the service.
