Thomas M. Gibson, for more than 40 years a citizen of Neosho, died last Thursday, April 21, at the home of his sister, Mrs. J.E. Barr, on Adams Street, where he had been living since he was stricken with paralysis some two months ago. He had partially recovered but had a second stroke about a week before his death. He was born in McDonough
County, Ill., in 1861, and went with his parents to Kansas when a child. He lived there until about 1880 when he came to Neosho. Soon after coming here he was appointed deputy recorder by Recorder B.J. Morrow and when Mr. Morrow's term expired he continued to hold the position under J.C.
Geyer. Later he went to Carthage and was cashier of the Bank of Carthage for several years. At the time of his sickness he was bookkeeper of the Neosho Foundry and Plow Works and had been with them for a number of years. He was an excellent bookkeeper and enjoyed the confidence of his employers as well as the esteem of all who knew him. He was never married. His two sisters, Mrs. Barr and Mrs. Hulse of Neosho, and his two nieces, Mrs. Georgia Shortt of Neosho, and Dr. Elizabeth Hulse of Kansas City, were here at his death and funeral. The funeral services were held at the residence Saturday at 11 o'clock conducted by Rev. S.F. Stevens of the M. E. Church. Services at the Gibson Cemetery were he was buried were conductd by the officers of the Elks Lodge of which deceased was a member.
