Marshall Henry Long, a resident of Willow Springs, passed away while at his residence at the Willow West Apartments, Friday evening, July 1st, 2016 due to natural causes. Born December 23, 1919 to Alexander and Maggie (Baker) Long in Rich Hill, MO; he was 96 years old.
Marshall was united in marriage to Georgia “Jan” McCormack on July 2nd, 1977 here in Willow Springs. Sadly, they were just one day short of celebrating their thirty ninth wedding anniversary. Marshall strongly believed in honor and duty and proudly served his country during WWII in the Army Air Corps. He grew up with a great love for the outdoors and in 1948 he became a Conservation Agent with the Missouri Department of Conservation and later became a Regional Supervisor. He absolutely loved his work and took great pride in his duties and appearance. It was said that as a supervisor, he expected his agents to follow suit. After 37 years of service, he finally retired in 1985. Marshall had many enjoyments in his life which obviously included being outdoors where he could fish and canoe. He also enjoyed “collecting” things. He collected just about anything he could find. However, he especially enjoyed meeting people and making new friends and was proud of the fact that he never met a stranger. He would stop and talk with anyone just to get to know them. Marshall will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him and being his friend.
Marshall was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Esther Mize Long; his brother, Frank William Long; and his sister, Margie Katherine Long.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia Janette “Jan” Long of Willow Springs and his daughter Nancy N. Ogle of Overland Park, KS. He is further survived by three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, several nieces, and one nephew.
Funeral services for Marshall will be held Thursday, July 7th, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Christian Church, located at 310 N. Center Street in Willow Springs with Pastor Kendal Bates officiating. A visitation will be held Wednesday evening, July 6th from 6pm – 8pm at the Willow Funeral Home, located at 106 E. Third Street in Willow Springs. Memorial contributions may be made in Marshall’s name to the First Christian Church and left at the funeral home. On-line condolences may be expressed at www.willowspringsfuneralhome.com
