James E. Shelton, 69, of Hayti, died Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at his home.

Born June 2, 1942 in Dyersburg, Tenn., he is the son of the late Elbert and Josephine Hall Shelton.

James was united in marriage to Wanda Hager on June 20, 1960 in Steele.

He worked most of his life in farming and was of the Church of God faith.

Mr. Shelton leaves his wife, Wanda Shelton, of the home; three sons: Rondall Shelton of Hayti, Jimmy Shelton of Dyersburg, Tenn., and Jeff Shelton of Hayti; one daughter, Jo Ann Shelton, of Braggadocio; three grandsons: Chris Shelton, Jonathan Groeuevell and Nicholas Haynes; three granddaughters: Misty Shelton, Ashley Shelton and Tosha Shelton; and 15 great-grandchildren; four brothers and one sister of Florida.

Graveside services for Mr. Shelton were held Friday, March 23 at the Mount Zion Cemetery in Steele with Bro. Clifford Britt officiating.

Pallbearers were Christopher Shelton, Jonathan Groeuevell, Nicholas Haynes, Chad Hager, Skip Hager and Steve Shelton.

John W. German Funeral Home of Steele was in charge of services.
