PFC US ARMY WORLD WAR II
Warren S. Norrid Sr., 93, passed away Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016, at River Oaks Care Center in Steele. He was born March 28, 1923, in Holland to the late William G. and Lillie Fisher Norrid. He shared a room at River Oaks with his wife of 73 years, Juanita Lavall Norrid. When he was a young boy, he earned the nickname "Snag", a name he is still called. He was a PFC in the US Army Air Corp during World War II, and he served in the European Theatre of Operations. He worked and retired from General Motors, the Corvette Division. He received many awards for his suggestions for improvement during his career. He was also sent to represent the company in New York to share his suggestions. A group manager minus the credentials.
Mr. Norrid loved being with family. He always looked forward to yearly reunion and competing in games and cards. He was a natural at any sport he participated in: horseshoes, washers, ping pong, bowling, golf, pool, croquet - the list goes on and on. He loved teasing competitors of which there were many. People lined up to play with him because he was so much fun. He was also an outstanding gardener. He and his wife, Juanita, would can and hand out vegetables, asking only for the jar and lid to be returned. He loved sharing the fruits of his labor. Neighbors came from all over town to harvest turnip greens in the fall. If a neighbor in town had a hardship, such as a fire, he was one of the first people to arrive and offer help. He once bought a new bed for someone. The children of Holland ran up to his car to see him. He always made over them and made them feel special. He was a beloved husband, dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle and friend.
Mr. Norrid was preceded in death by his parents, William G. and Lillie Norrid; one son, Larry Norrid (Pat); one grandchild, Melissa Norrid, and five siblings, Manuel, Thurman, Jim, Ethel Norrid Carrel and Gardner.
