Duane
Mar 31, 1929
Feb 2, 2017
Duane Thompson, a resident of Mountain View, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2017 while at Ozarks Medical Center due to natural causes. Born March 31, 1929 in Shelbyville, IL to Lloyd and Ethel (Davis) Thompson, he was 87 years old.
Duane had many occupations throughout his life. One could say he liked to work and to remain busy. Duane served in the National Guard towards the end of WWII and was honorably discharged just prior to the Korean War. After his discharge he went back to the family farm to help his father with raising cattle, hogs, chickens, and produce. He then went to work for Kenny’s Upholstery where he upholstered chairs. He also worked for Kull Bros. Appliances where he was taught the trade of plumbing and that of an electrician. He was even a chauffeur for a Doctor. However, his work history doesn’t stop there. He then went to work for Woodrow Enock Trucking Company and FS Service Station where he delivered propane. He also served on the Shelbyville Police Department for approximately two years before moving to New Mexico where he went to work for a mobile home company, delivering and setting up mobile homes. When not working, Duane loved to garden and grow all kinds of produce which he liked to share with his neighbors. He also liked to visit with the guys down at the local lumberyard. However, he especially loved spending time with his dogs.
On July 26, 2001, he was married to Bonita Jean Thompson at the Gracestone Community of Christ Church in Willow Springs.
Duane is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Bonita Jean Thompson; his son, Dwight Thompson and his wife Cristen, all of Mountain View; his brother, Dale Thompson and his wife, Sarah of Neoga, IL; Sisters-in-law, Janet Thompson of Windsor, IL; and Marilyn Thompson of Lovington, IL. Three grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews further survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Thompson will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 6, 2017 at the Willow funeral home in Willow Springs with Pastor Joel Hinds officiating. Burial will take place at the Willow Springs Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Willow Funeral Home. On-line condolences may be expressed at www.willowspringsfuneralhome.com
