James Kellar Bowen, 95, a native Knox Countian and farmer of 7 miles Southwest of Novelty, died at 6:30 o'clock Monday morning, Nov. 14, 1966, at the Gibson Hospital here where he had been a patient since Oct. 20. He had been in failing health the last six months but prior to that time had remained unusually active for one his age.

Funeral services were at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel in Edina, with the Rev. Carroll Kakac of Shelbina officiating. Burial was in the Hazel Dell Cemetery, north of Sue City.

He is survived by a son, William McKinley Bowen, of southwest of Novelty, three daughters, Zelma Grace, Mrs. Steve Lynch, of Stanwood, Iowa, Vena Maurine, Mrs. Edmund Kaser, of southwest of Novelty, and Dorothy Laverne, Mrs. Wayland Gosney, of Wright City, 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. Also surviving are a brother, Arch Bowen, of southwest of Novelty, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bowen was born Oct. 1, 1871, a son of Thomas B. and Sarah Hodges Bowen and was married in 1894 to Lillie Sly, who preceded him in death May 14, 1960. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a son Harley Bowen, who died in Nov. 13, 1951, a son and daughter in infancy, two brothers, John and Charley Bowen, and two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Walker and Mrs. Florence Pond.
