JULY 16, 1896: OBITUARY -- Once more the hand of death has visited this vicinity and taken from our presence Mrs. J. L. Garner. Heaven divine has called her to a better world than this and to that world she has gone and thither our affections have followed her. The last days of her earthly pilgrimage closed July 3d, 1896, and the end was peace. She died with blood poison. She leaves a husband and three children, two little girls, one five weeks old and the other one three years old, the boy six years old. Mrs. Joe Smith is taking care of the baby. Mrs. Garner called her husband to her bed and told him to hand her the baby; he handed it to her, she took it and kissed it and told her husband goodby; said she was going to leaver her sweet little children. She belonged to the Mt. Zion church. The remains were buried at Mt. Zion on the 4th in the cemetery Mr. Sapp has given on his land near the church yard. The bereaved have the sympathy of the entire community in their sad hour of bereavement. Let us remember she is not dead but has passed to that higher, holier sphere called home where God's angels dwell and no pain or sadness comes. -- A precious one from us has gone; A voice we loved is stilled; A place is vacant in our home; Which never can be filled.
