Sherman Leon Dent, 83, of Steele, died Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at River Oaks Care Center in Steele.
Born July 28, 1923 in Walnut Ridge, Ark., he is the son of the late Albert Dent and Bertha Denbow Dent. He was also preceded in death by a special aunt and uncle, Alfred and Iva Dent, who raised him, and one brother, Herbert Denbow.
Sherman was united in marriage to Dorothy Prater on May 25, 1953 in Piggott, Ark.
He worked as a mechanic for Kinningham Motor Company for 25 years and also for Utley, Inc. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Steele.
He served his country during World War II in the Army/Air Force.
Mr. Dent leaves his wife, Dorothy Dent, of Steele, one son, Tommy Dent, of Steele; one granddaughter, Shelby Dent, of Steele; one grandson, Josh Dent, of Steele; one brother, Jerry Dent, of St. Louis; and two sisters: Kaye Chapman of Cape Girardeau and Jewell Mauk of Lilbourn.
Funeral services for Mr. Dent were held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 18, at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Steele with Rev. Michael Funderburk officiating.
Burial was at the Mount Zion Cemetery in Steele.
Pallbearers were Jackson Neil, Tommy Privett, Jerry Hinklin, Jeff Privett, Kenny Wiseman and Mike McCord.
Honorary pallbearer was Bruno Montgomery.
